Shiva Lingams

We have recently received a number of Shiva Lingam stones, in a variety of sizes. These fascinating stones are a symbol of the worship of the Hindu deity Shiva, the word “lingam” meaning “sign” when translated from the Sanskrit. Indeed, some authorities believe that the stones are the embodiment of the God himself. The stones have been worshipped for thousands of years and may possibly be the result of a meteor that fell to earth millions of years ago. They are formed beneath the waters of the Narmada River in India, north east of Mumbai, where, once a year on a sacred day, a select group of families search the riverbed for the stones.

The patterning and colouring of each stone is unique, which is not surprising when you consider how and where they are formed. The Linga store a great deal of energy within themselves and are excellent stones to meditate with. For centuries, they have been associated with fertility and some scholars believe that the stone itself represents the male reproductive organ and the markings the female equivalent. The powerful blending of male and female energies can lead to self-enlightenment, peace of mind and a state of harmony. The stones are a rare form of cryptocrystalline quartz and no two stones are ever exactly the same.

One can only truly appreciate the beauty and undeniable power of these magnificent stones at first hand, so we would urge you to visit our Redhill showroom while stocks last. At the time of writing, we have an impressive range of stones, from the very small (approximately 10 to 15mm in length), to the medium in size (40 to 50mm in length) and several “whoppers” that measure over 30cm long. As they are one of nature’s most sought after specimens, we suggest you take the opportunity to view them at your earliest convenience. As usual, we are always happy to e-mail photographs of specific items to you, if a visit is not possible.
