Description

Angelite

Angelite is the trade name for a variant of Anhydrite – a glacier blue stone that is only formed in very specific circumstances. Deposits of blue crystals are left in areas where Gypsum stones have been in contact with groundwater. As the water evaporates, Anhydrite formations with a unique blue/lilac colouring are revealed. Although the mineral that is left is very soft and fragile, it can be highly polished to form smooth, oval tumble stones with a white centre and characteristic flecks across its surface.

The name Anhydrite is derived from the Greek word ‘anhydras’, meaning ‘without water’. This refers to the unique process in which the stone is formed, as it can be playfully described as a Gypsum that has lost its water.

Angelite is thought to promote a sense of healing and wellbeing, particularly when used in conjunction with meditation.
