Description

Howlite

A Borite Mineral – white with black veins.

Howlite is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral that forms in layers of sedimentary rock. It is commonly associated with Magnesite due to the similar appearance of dark veining across the surface of the stone when highly polished.  However Howlite is known to be a comparatively weaker material. When highly polished, the prismatic structures of its crystals result in a stone with a smooth surface (comparable to Granite), making it a highly desirable material for carvings.

It is common to find a selection of material that has been synthetically enhanced, as the neutral colour and porous nature of the rock makes it very susceptible to colour changing dye. Its most popular treatment includes turning it a brilliant blue.

This Howlite is completely natural, and has not been synthetically enhanced.

It is commonly used to strengthen the working memory, particularly when absorbing knowledge. High levels of Magnesium within its mineral content have been linked with the treatment of bone and tooth disorders.
