Picture Stone Jasper

A microcrystalline form of Quartz – beige to brown with scenic markings.

Jasper is an aggregate stone, mainly composed of Quartz and Iron. The presence of Iron Oxide (the mineral responsible for its colouring) pigments the compound, resulting in its distinctive colouring and patterns across the surface of the stone. The unique markings can sometimes be interpreted as painted landscapes, showing the origin of its namesake.  Picture Stone Jasper is also known as Kalahari Picture Stone or KPS.

The small amount of patterning is created when rocks composed of several different fragments are naturally melded together, creating banding and veins within its matrix. This commonly occurs during tectonic activity within the Earth’s crust, as disturbing deposits of Jasper causes it to continuously grow and fill any new cracks or veins that have been created.

Jasper Picture Stone is considered a powerful grounding stone, bringing protective qualities such as comfort and harmony.
