Description
Polychrome Jasper
A microcrystalline form of Quartz – circular patterns of different shades of brown on greys.
Polychrome Jasper is represented as an impure form of Chalcedony, containing a variety of minerals that form a range of colours.
Jasper is an aggregate stone, mainly composed of Quartz and Iron. The presence of Iron Oxide (the mineral responsible for its rich, red colouring) pigments the compound, resulting in its distinctive colouring and patterns across the surface of the stone.
The small amount of patterning is created when rocks composed of several different fragments are naturally melded together, creating banding and veins within its matrix. This commonly occurs during tectonic activity within the Earth’s crust, as disturbing deposits of Jasper causes it to continuously grow and fill any new cracks or veins that have been created.
Polychrome Jasper is thought to be a powerful stone, helping to channel manifestations of passion or desire.
