Description
Yellow Jasper
A microcrystalline form of Quartz – red, yellow brown with some banding.
Yellow Jasper is an aggregate stone, mainly composed of Quartz and Iron. The presence of Iron Oxide (the mineral responsible for its colouring) pigments the compound, resulting in its distinctive colouring and patterns across the surface of the stone. This is very similar to the process in which Red Jasper is pigmented, however the Iron is exposed to significantly higher temperatures to achieve a rich yellow.
The patterning is created when rocks composed of several different fragments are naturally melded together, creating banding and veins within its matrix. In Jasper, this commonly occurs during tectonic activity within the Earth’s crust, as disturbing deposits of Jasper causes it to continuously grow and fill any new cracks or veins that have been created.
Yellow Jasper is a protective stone associated with inner strength and clarity.
