Snowball Selenite – Tealight Holder
Selenite is named after ‘Selene’ the Greek goddess of the moon. It is a variety of Gypsum that is commonly found in sedimentary rocks. Although Gypsum has many forms, deposits that manifest in large, opaque crystal structures, are given the name Selenite. It is formed when large bodies of water evaporate, leaving behind a layer of salt-like mineral that will eventually crystallise under pressure.
The Cave of the Crystals in Chihuahua, Mexico, holds the world’s biggest Selenite crystals. Currently, the largest shard is 12 meters long, 4 meters thick and weighs 55 tonnes, however the cave has recently closed due to flooding, providing excellent conditions for the crystal to continue their growth.
Selenite is thought to activate and open the third eye and the crown chakras. Its intensity is known to be greater than other stones for the upper chakras, such as the Soul Star – 8th chakra.
