Description
Amethyst Dog Tooth
Member of the Quartz family – long crystals of Banded Amethyst.
Amethyst is a variety of Quartz that has fused with Manganese and Iron during its formation. The strength of its distinctive colour is determined by how much Iron is present in its content. The geographical location of Amethyst can have a strong impact on the characteristics of its crystals, including the shade and strength of its colour. These can range from pale lavender, to a shade of purple close to black.
Bands are created in Amethyst when the crystals combine with Snow Quartz during its growth, resulting in alternating layers of colour in chevron patterns. In Dog Tooth, each piece is a tumbled shard of amethyst, creating long tumblestones similar in shape to a dog’s canine.
Exposing Amethyst to high temperatures will change its purple tones to orange, resulting in its other popular form, Citrine.
Amethyst is a very soothing stone, and is commonly used to relieve negative emotions such as stress and to dispel anger. It has been thought to aid in treatment of blood diseases, burns and infections.
Please keep out of direct sunlight as this will remove its colour.
A-Grade Amethyst Tumble stone. Medium to dark purple with sharp calcite chevrons. Each piece is a tumbled shard of amethyst and therefore is shaped like a dog’s canine. Other grades of tumbled amethyst are available below.
