Petrified Wood Flame (XL)

Extra large piece of high grade petrified wood, carved into the shape of a twisted flame. Mined from Washington State, this piece will date 14 – 15 million years old.

Petrified Wood is formed when plant material is buried in sediment, and protected from decaying due to the lack of oxygen. Over time, the groundwater, rich in minerals, will flow through this sediment and replace the plant material with other things like Silica, Calcite and Pyrite. As a result we are left with a fossilised version of the original woody material that includes details of bark, wood and cellular structures.
