Tumbled specimen sold in 1lb / 453g bags.
Flint is a Silica Mineral that can be found in many parts of the world. Nodules are formed within the matrix of common sedimentary rocks (such as Chalk and Limestone), creating layers and banding. These nodules may also be randomly dispersed throughout. The durability and hardness of Flint make it incredibly weather resistant, which is why it is commonly found along the beds and cliffs of rivers, beaches and streams – and is still used to protect to the outside of homes and buildings.
Flint has played a pivotal role in the evolution of humans, as its ability to form conchoidal fractures when broken was vital to the construction of tools and weapons. The survival of Neanderthals depended on finding a durable material that could reliably be made into arrows, axes and drills. Native American tribes that settled close to deposits in Ohio also utilised this highly versatile stone, showing how Flint can be seen as a very important resource.
This stone has been celebrated throughout Ancient Cultures for its grounding and balancing abilities.
